A Useable Feast at Noble Cookery
If you like art, food, and prefer when the two influence each other, this event is for you.
Down to Earth event planners will coordinate with Art in the Age and Noble Cookery to put on a sustainable feast with ceramic pottery on display.
It'll kick off with a cocktail hour with seasonal drinks inspired by local ingredients and a pottery preview at the modern farmhouse-style restaurant Noble Cookery in Rittenhouse Square. Over 75 pieces of functional pottery by Jim Dugan, Mel Griffin, Ayumi Horie, and Gwendolyn Yoppolo will be available. The family-style dinner at 8pm will focus on locally grown food. The exhibit itself is intended to highlight the connection between food, art, and people.

Design Solutions from Bench Dog in Fishtown
Our love affair with reclaimed wood in modern design continues with the folks at Bench Dog Design.
They take discarded lumber from Philadelphia rowhomes and bring it back into action, whether it's used for stairs, tables, benches, or counters. The woodworkers' studio in Fishtown is where the eco-magic happens. The group of architects and designers are responsible for adding unique touches to homes all over the city and even in other states.
An entry on their blog shows their solution for a Fishtown home that lacked the space for a coat closet. Bench Dog crafted a vestibule with strips of wood, then added antique doorknobs and other salvaged items as hooks. That's neater than any closet I can think of. The art-as-function principle is well employed here.

It's only fitting that Bench Dog's studio is right across the street from Konrad Square in Fishtown, where weekend flea markets bring neighbors out in search of wares and treasures. The garage is filled with all kinds of parts and materials. It's hard to imagine that the end product is always a sleek design, but the work is simply amazing.
If you're interested in working salvaged materials into your home design, we suggest you give them a call and see what these eco-urban composers can do for you.

Rethinking Philly with 21st Century Building Codes
One of the most important factors in turning Philadelphia into a more sustainable city is our building codes. Attend PlanPhilly's forum, Cracking The Code: How 21st Century Building Codes Will Make Or Break Our Communities, on March 18 for more information on how these essential codes can influence the shape of our city in years to come. Zoning codes decide what goes where and how it is built. As time passes and the world changes, some of these codes need to be adjusted to ensure a better future. Find out what zoning reform efforts are being made in your community.
Speakers include:
