Greenable Grows with 3 New Locations

We're sad and yet happy for Greenable Green Building and Design Center in Northern Liberties.  Wiping away a tear because the sustainable design firm is shuttering the doors of Greenable on 4th Street, yet rooting for its move to three exciting locations. Greensaw Design & Build shares the space with Greenable and plans on staying at 820 N. 4th Street and expanding into the entire building.

Ardmore, 41 Rittenhouse Place, opening September 9th

Kennett Square, 116 South Union Street, opening Fall 2011

Philadelphia, 2200 Walnut Street, opening Fall 2011

Way to grow, guys!  They've simply gotten too big for their current space and they're bidding adieu with a massive Warehouse Sale on green building materials, bamboo flooring, reclaimed doors and furniture, plumbing fixtures, artwork and more! So if you're currently searching for items for a new project, we highly suggest you get over there, say goodbye, and stock up on supplies! Plus 25% off stock-of-the-shelf items.

What’s New in Old City: There’s No Place Like a Jonathan Adler Decorated Home for the Holidays

Just in time for the holidays, a Jonathan Adler home decor and furniture store has opened in Old City, which is the Philadelphia mecca for furniture and design. We went over to check things out and we just want to say, Welcome to Third Street!

Currently, the gorgeous two-floor store is showcasing their holiday ornaments and there are plenty of giftable items among the retro-chic displays throughout the shop. If you're looking for some extra special touches (whether you're selling and will be showing this season, or just moved in and it's your first Christmas), we're sure you can find something bright and inviting here. Go visit and let us know what you think!

We also hear that Mr. Adler himself will be visiting the store on the evening of Wednesday, December 15 (hey, that's tomorrow, already) so stop by and meet JA.

Fall Designer’s Tip: Go for the Glow!

Autumn is often seen as a time for reflection. During the fall months, people start thinking cozy and the nesting instinct kicks in. For those who want to make the usual décor changes to their home or add a seasonal touch for your  guests at Thanksgiving , here are several easy ideas to consider. If you're trying to sell your home during these colder months, the following tips can make your space seem warm and inviting.

Pump Up your Mantle with Pumpkins

Purchase  inexpensive little pumpkins or colorful gourds that can be placed all around the home, cascading down a stairwell or pitched in a row on top of fence posts surrounding the yard. Fall leaves come in a variety of beautiful shapes and colors. Bring them indoors! Prevent them from drying out by rubbing with a thin layer of moisturizer to preserve the color and texture. They can be used in a table centerpiece or along your Fireplace Mantle.

Create a Cozy Glow with Candles and Lanterns

Use white Pillar Candles of all different sizes to create a unique Candle Scape in the Fireplace, before it is too cold to light a fire. One idea is to use a knife or small melon scoop to hollow out the center of multiple mini-pumpkins (all the same color) and replace the centers with a small votive candle. Candles and tealights are inexpensive and can be found at Target and IKEA. Conversation between your holiday guests will flow more naturally with a dimmer, mysteriously lit space. Everybody looks best with a candlelight glow.

Lanterns are Subdued, Elegant, and Charming. They can be decorative or simple and can also be used to spice up Indoor or Outdoor spaces. They have fantastic “curb appeal” in the evening where it creates a warm, inviting glow that can light a walkway or steps leading into a home. Lanterns can decorate an outdoor deck, patio or walkway where flowers are dwindling. Lanterns can be purchased at local garden or home retail stores in your area.

Designers, Developers, and Decor Addicts: Don’t Miss DesignPhiladelphia

Design. It's right there in front of us when we're buying a home. It's at the very front of our minds when we're trying to develop, remodel, or sell. And it certainly deserves a celebration and reflection all its own, right here in Philadelphia. We've posted about tomorrow evening's kick-off party at West Elm for DesignPhiladelphia, which runs from October 7 - 17.  But we also wanted to mention a couple of other events that jumped out at us.

There are so many designers and experts in the city with exciting ideas and exhibits. If you are attending this year, which events are you going to?

IDA – Interior Design Awards, October 7th, 11:00am - 3:00pm, Liberty Place, 16th and Chestnut Street

We always stress how important interior design and staging can be and it'll be interesting to see the winners for this year and how they are innovating the industry.

Re(New)Purpose, October 13th, 5:00pm - 7:00pm, 7:30pm - 10:30pm, Front & Palmer, 1750 North Front Street

Somebody can always turn your junk into a gem. And then make you wish you had thought of that. There's an entire exhibit dedicated to furniture and art that has been re-cast  as covetable items.

Food and Design, October 9th, 10:00am – 2:00pm, Teknika Design Group, 225 Race Street

Are you  building your dream kitchen? This showcase may be of interest, as experts of kitchen design will be on hand with advice on how to stay within your budget when upgrading your kitchen.

We love the look of a few choice antique objects placed in a contemporary setting. At Three Potato Four, a home decor shop that opens tomorrow in Manayunk, you'll find such items along with vintage hardware, prints, signs, and more.  The shop, which started out online,  is located in an old mill along Shurs Lane, to add to the charm. It will be open on Fridays and Saturdays and by appointment only.
