Come to My Window…in Old City.
One of the things we love about Old City is the fine window-shopping. The broad, expansive windows were made for peering into, and the art galleries and boutiques in Old City have some of the most unusual and appealing displays in Philadelphia. Which leads us to Old City Windows, a window design and exhibit contest that is part of DesignPhiladelphia. Starting today and running through October 17, the businesses of Old City are getting extra creative with their window designs, and you can vote for your favorite window online or via text. So if you find yourself checking out First Friday in Old City tonight, pay some attention to those windows and remember to vote! You can find the participants at the Old City Business Collective website.

Food Co-op Comes to Kensington
When you're out and about this First Friday, take a break from art for a minute and turn your attention to food. The Kensington Community Food Co-op will be launching their membership campaign with a party at 2205 Frankford Avenue from 6 - 10pm. Take in 4 local bands and plenty of local beer all for the cause of local food. The KCFC will be discussing their project and membership opportunities. There is a $5 suggested donation. From the KCFC:
"Wouldn’t it be great to be just minutes from your favorite grocery store? Wouldn’t it be great to completely trust that your store has your best interests in mind? Wouldn’t it be great to have regular access to local fresh and organic foods at an affordable fair price? It will be great! A handful of your neighbors, people not much different than you, came together in 2008 with the mission to open a member-owned cooperative grocery store in the Kensington area."
The Co-op is finally coming to fruition. See for yourself this Friday and lend your support, Kensington.

What’s up with…Fishtown
Fishtown is a northern residential neighborhood next to the Delaware River. The river ward has changed dramatically in recent years with its proximity to Northern Liberties and has drawn many students and artists to its small, triangular territory of rowhomes. The Market-Frankford line borders the neighborhoood on one side, with the river bounding it on the other side. Penn Treaty Park is one of the largest community spaces here. Johnny Brendas is a popular bar and music venue that is notable throughout the country. Girard Avenue has experienced strong growth in local businesses and dining establishments. On the other side of the neighborhood, the Frankford Arts Corridor is home to many galleries and small businesses.
The neighborhood is made up of rowhomes and small, tight-knit streets where residents come together for block parties and chat with one another from their stoops. You will find artists biking along the avenues or bands meeting up for coffee at a nearby cafe. The First Friday crowd from Old City now stops in Fishtown to check out the galleries and artwork displayed here. 2424 Studios on York Street combines offices, gallery space, and venues to give the community a creative hub.

What’s up with…Old City
Old City is a preserved historic district that contains many of Philadelphia's most famous and widely visited attractions. The area still maintains an urban edge with fashion boutiques and salons, arthouse movie theaters, a thriving community of art galleries and design stores, and an array of dining options. Salons and furniture shops are aplenty. The Franklin Fountain ice cream parlor is an old-fashioned crowd favorite, particularly in the summer. You will find your cheesesteaks, but you will also find acclaimed restaurants such as Zahav and Morimoto.
The riverside neighborhood has access to the Market-Frankford line and is a short walk to the attractions of Northern Liberties. The historic architecture and cobblestone that still remains on many streets give Old City a charming feel. There are many tiny alleys and horse-drawn carriages still populate the streets along with the zippy Mazda 3's and giant SEPTA buses. Old City hosts First Friday at the beginning of every month, for new art exhibitions at the many galleries.
