West Elm and InLiquid Pair Up for DesignPhiladelphia
Are you ready to kick off DesignPhiladelphia 2010? Do it at West Elm! The contemporary furniture store has paired up with InLiquid and they are celebrating the first day of DesignPhiladelphia at the Center City West Elm. We are huge fans of West Elm (see our Dream Bedroom Makeover) AND InLiquid, as we are strong advocates for art and artists (Stephanie is an artist) in Philadelphia. So in our Northern Liberties home, you will find plenty of both - West Elm furniture and artwork. We always knew the two belonged together!
Beach-Bound Philly: Shop for the Essentials in Center City
You're packing for the beach and you need a swimsuit, stat. Every summer, Liberty Place's Cameo Water Wear reappears in time for the shore-seeking souls of Philadelphia.
They've got fun designs from Trina Turk, as well as the basics, with coverups, sarongs, and Haviana flip-flops to trek across the sand in.
From there, we suggest you accessorize with some sunglasses, bangles, and beachy tunics at South Moon Under, which also stocks plenty of swimwear for men and women.

Then head to Kiehl's for the ultimate in sun protection, because skin is the most important summer accessory. The Vital Sun Protection Spray is perfect for a quick spritz.
You can get out the city, but it's always fun to shop there first.

The City of Cupcake Lovers
Everybody was talking about the cupcakes. By everybody, I mean the dozens of working folk and shoppers who walked in and out of the 17th Street side entrance of Liberty Place. The buzz was all about Brown Betty Dessert Boutique's newest cupcake outlet, a small slice of heaven in a jam-packed Center City location.
"Brown Betty is the best," gushed one woman to her curious friend.
"Is this all of the cupcakes that they have?"
"Oh, no, honey, they usually sell out by now. This is what's left," explained a girl who had been here twice already this week.
Even men were gawking, hoping that there would be a red velvet left to take home to their girlfriends, and secretly an extra one for themselves.
I stepped up to the counter and found out that they have been trying to figure out the correct number of cupcakes to order for this location.
"We had 300 the other day and they disappeared in hours. We tried 400 and that still wasn't enough. We'll work it out," the cupcake counterperson promised. "We're also figuring out which items we'd like to sell here." Her bright blue-green eyeshadow was as pretty as the frosting on the cupcakes.
It was only 1:30 and there were just a few of those hot cakes left. The "petite" shop was decorated in a similar style to the Liberties Walk location with antique photos hanging on a chocolate-colored wall, and the words "A Modern Vintage Bakery" announcing itself on the window.
If you're in Center City and need a sweet pick-me-up, well, best to get there early!

What’s up with…Rittenhouse Square
Rittenhouse Square is in Center City, Philadelphia. The major shopping, dining, and business destination is where visitors and locals come together for culture and nightlife. As one of the most convenient areas for commuters to get to by public transportation, many Philadelphians come to Rittenhouse for work, shopping and entertainment. Those that travel end up staying near Rittenhouse Square, due to the variety of hotels that it offers.
Rittenhouse Square itself is akin to Central Park, albeit much smaller, as it attracts dog walkers, musicians, and all types in one common public space. There is a lot to see and do here, whether you're overlooking the square at an outdoor table at Parc or browsing the sales rack at Barneys Co-op. Many of the historic homes that surround Rittenhouse Square have been restored, but still maintain their handsome exteriors.
