Last month we found out that Arrow Swim Club would be undergoing a few changes this summer. New name, new management, and...new lower prices?
We received an email from the new North Shore confirming that Brian Nagele owner of philly2night.com and Kings Oak has indeed taken over the space for next season. The swim club will stay 21+, but membership fees will drop to $500 per person (from last season's $1,000). The season runs from May 1st through October 31st. Guest passes will cost $20 per day. Only 500 memberships will be offered for the 2012 season (100 have already been taken). Applications are now up at www.northshorebeachclub.com.
Are you jumping in? We're curious to know if the new lower price will convince more people to sign up.
Is it too early to think about lounging by the pool? We hear that Arrow Swim Club at the Piazza in Northern Liberties will be under new management this summer. According to PhillyChitChat, the new hands belong to Brian Nagele, founder and president of Cities 2 Night and operating Philly2Night.com, as well as owner of King's Oak in the Piazza.
Will the membership price change? What type of pool parties and entertainment can you expect from a nightlife aficionado? We'll keep you posted on all things poolside here in Northern Liberties, as it's the only thing that's going to get us through this brisk winter weather.
Some background on Arrow Swim Club:
The Flats at Girard Pointe at 1233 N 3rd Street easily has you covered when it comes to living in style in Northern Liberties - Custom Landscaping and Sculptural Fencing, Eco-Smart Options, and yes, a VIP Membership to the Arrow Swim Club that we've been all a-flutter about over here. Move in now and make the most out of summer - at the pool, in the private green space of your backyard, or in the neighborhood, this address has a Walk Score of 94 and is close to Liberties Walk and the Piazza.
Blame that catchy title on the mojitos, the warm temperature, or the fact that we have a touch of swim club fever and our YouTube Video Channel reflects it. Now that Northern Liberties has an adults-only pool club that is a few steps from our office at the Piazza we are starting to think it was pretty much inevitable that we'd become members. So go on and have a peek at our latest videos and subscribe to our channel - which currently feels very much like MTV Spring Break meets the Real Housewives of Miami but way better because it's Philly-style.
We want to know what you think? Will you join?
See you at the Swim Club...!
Does this sound familiar?
A group of young adults discover a boarded up Swim Club, I mean campground. Remember legendary Crystal Lake where the unsuspecting innocents soon encounter Jason the psycho-slasher sporting a creepy hockey mask? This classic thriller was made famous on the eve of Friday the 13th. Will Arrow Swim Club succumb to the mystic lore that Friday the13th holds? Will Jason make a guest appearance? Is Arrow built over an Indian burial ground? The answers to these questions and more...

The recent cancellation of the Cinco de Mayo event at the posh private swim club heightens the intrigue for local Philadelphians and creates more of a question in people's minds. Will Arrow Swim Club Hit its Target? Will further delays slow the membership needed to run the exclusive club?
We have been tracking progress as contractors feverishly work toward meeting the opening date of May 15th. But the sudden cancellation of the Cinco de Mayo Party has Northern Liberties neighbors and current Arrow Club Members a little nervous. The reason for the cancellation was "weather" but that excuse is LAME! A little rain never hurt anyone. It's a swim club built around WATER. Is there more to it than meets the eye?
In the shadow of the empty supermarket space that was to be a Pathmark, many Northern Liberties neighbors look with a doubtful eye on Arrow's success. Will Arrow Swim Club hit its target? What do you think?
UPDATE: Cancelled due to weather.
Memberships for the Arrow Swim Club go on sale to the public today. And guess what? I am so there.
I didn't know what to expect at the Launch Party for Arrow Swim Club at Tendenza in Northern Liberties. Having heard very mixed opinions about having a posh pool scene in Northern Liberties, I was very curious what it was all about.
I rushed out of pilates class, slapped on some lip gloss, and 2 minutes later when I arrived at Tendenza, WOWZA! The place was aflutter with people, music, video, cameras and even a TV crew! People were dressed to the hilt and everyone looked marvelous, darling. Simply smashing.
Was I intimidated by this gorgeous, young, and just stepped out of GQ and Vogue crowd? I'd be a liar if I said no. I had visions of me in a swimsuit and shuddered for a moment. But as I spoke to the folks celebrating the Opening of Arrow Swim Club, I realized that almost everyone had the same twinge of self consciousness mixed with an overwhelming desire to JOIN IMMEDIATELY.
The verdict is in. I am so there! Chris and I are joining and plan to have a great time this summer! We will let you know our review of the Arrow Swim Club in Northern Liberties in the months to come. And if you plan on joining too, come over and say hello. I will be the one in the muumuu blogging on my computer. Just kidding about the muumuu.

Not a bad way to spend the summer, right? Every year we wonder what could happen next in Northern Liberties (the neighborhood where no idea is too far from actualization) and every year we get another cool venue to tell people about when they come to visit. Now, when people ask if Northern Liberties has a swim club with cabanas and a firepit, we'll tell them:
Why, yes. Yes it does.
Applications will be available on the website on Monday, March 7th.
