Sonata – A Northern Liberties Delight !
Sonata - A Northern Liberties Delight !
If you have not been to Sonata yet in Northern Liberties, you are in for a treat ! This BYOB has all you can ask for: a great atmosphere, terrific service and delicious food ! When we were dining outside, folks walked by and exclaimed "It is in the best food in Northern Liberties ! " And you know what ? They may be right !
Stephanie and I definitely plan on going back to test other items on the menu. The night we went we had the blackened tuna and the sirloin steak for entrees and a wonderful clams casino soup for an appetizer. The sirloin was so tender I could have sworn it was a filet ! Did I mention they also have a great brunch menu for Saturday and Sunday ?
Philadelphia Gone Wild
So the news in Philadelphia has taken a turn for the wild lately, and we're over here wondering what on earth could be next? First, there was that blogger tax controversy, and then a story about a mobile cupcake truck being confiscated by L&I.
Well, in this ode to the wacky, the bonkers, the absolutely wild, we'd like to point out a couple of crazy yet POSITIVE new happenings in our neck of the woods.
It's no secret that Philadelphians love their burgers just as much as we go cuckoo for cupcakes. It was just a matter of time before Piazza burger bar PYT came up with a Red Velvet Cupcake Burger. You read that right. This Burger of the Week is available right now and is an opportunist's dream of a Ground Chicken patty dipped in Red Velvet Cupcake batter and then dredged in toasted Red Velvet Cupcake toasted crumbs. Deep fried and served with a Cream Cheese Sauce and topped with thin Granny Smith Apple slices on a soft Challah bread brioche bun from Kaplan's Bakery in Northern Liberties. Of course, you get fries with that. Not only is PYT located in Northern Liberties, but the bun from nearby Kaplan's and the cupcakes from a neighborhood baker (Pamcakes Sweet Cupcakery) make this a true ode to Northern Liberties if there ever was one.

As if that was not enough, the Piazza has announced its First Annual Recess at the Piazza Dodgeball Tournament. Why not revisit your childhood love of dodgeball in the neighborhood where anything goes? For information to register for the tournament, email recessatthepiazza@gmail.com. The first tournament will be held on September 14.
What's going on in your city?

If you Build it, They Will Come: Meet the Builders Tour Recap
If you missed last week's Meet the Builders Tour, where we gave an inside look at 3 new construction properties with a developer on hand to answer questions, good news: We're doing it again! More details on that to come.
A hearty thank you to all of those who attended. It was nice to meet with all of you and discuss one of our favorite neighborhoods, Northern Liberties. How often do you get to see new construction in its final stages and hear about it straight from the source?
Our first tour kicked off at the Mews at Brown Street, where Corinthian Development welcomed us to view two of their soon-to-be-finished units. We were very excited to finally get inside, as we've been posting about all of the Mews' features and we had only been able to view the exterior and floor plans up until Thursday night. The interior is going to be amazing when completed. Corinthian had a special gift for us - t-shirts with Corinthian and the Somers Team on them. Thanks, guys!
Then we headed to Park View at Liberty Lands, giving our guests a short tour of Northern Liberties and a walk through the park. There were many units to check out at Park View and the roofdeck was an absolutely breathtaking stop - definitely the major draw of buying at Park View. There was also an inner courtyard and a huge garage.
Finally, we walked through Liberties Walk to George Street where Tina from Tower Investments unveiled the Liberties Walk Townhouses. Here, we were able to give our guests a glimpse at the latest rentals from the always-up-to-something Tower Investments.
It all ended at Apollinare with wine and appetizers where the discussion continued. Apollinare kept the food coming and our guests happy. It was a successful evening with a promising look at some new construction in Northern Liberties.
Now, the only question is: Which neighborhood are you interested in touring next?

Behind Closed Doors at Poplar Estates
POPLAR ESTATES RESIDENTS TELL ALL
What is going on in Poplar Estates? Well, we don't have any racy celeb bikini photos or a story about a shocking break-up that will shake Northern Liberties. We do have fresh interviews with condo owners at one of the neighborhood's hottest residences.
It is so common for Realtors to talk up their listings, the way that watercooler conversation can revolve around celebrity behavior. We talk about reality TV stars like we actually know them personally, but we don't.
So it is easy for Joe Realtor to say that a home is amazing and the neighborhood is fantastic. It is quite another when the residents speak highly of their home, themselves. We went straight to the source for Poplar Estates at 837 N. 2nd Street, and asked a couple of residents to tell us what it's really like to live there.
Their Favorite Things
"It's all about location. Not only is Poplar Estates located at the geographical center of Northern Liberties, 2nd & Poplar is also the social hub of the neighborhood."
- Richard
"I love the added convenience of having a garage parking spot in Northern Liberties."
- Amanda

A Sneak Peek at Liberties Walk Townhouses from Tower Investments
We were able to get inside of one of Tower Investments' newest rentals, the Liberties Walk Townhouses, during last night's Meet the Builders Tour (which we will provide a full recap of on Monday).
Tina Roberts from Tower was a great tour guide and we thank her for participating and giving our guests some details about the new project.
Set directly behind Liberties Walk on George Street (with the smells of El Camino Real wafting onto the street, yum), the Townhouses are just across the street from the Piazza and right down the block from the new location of One Shot Coffee on George (set to open later this fall). That means you will have some of the greatest scents of the neighborhood perfuming your little section of Northern Liberties heaven.
We especially loved the view of Center City from the deck and the sexy bathroom tile. Well-thought-out bathroom tile gets us every time...
This location is simply fantastic for anyone who wants to have the full Northern Liberties experience with a rental that is bigger in size with a townhouse layout.
The Road to Wellness on Girard Avenue
Over the past couple of years, East Girard Avenue has emerged as the destination for alternative health and wellness. Take a stroll and you will notice the offices of holistic health practitioners all along the avenue bordering the neighborhood of Fishtown. Homeopathy, reflexology, ayurveda. Those searching for a non-traditional remedy to whatever ails them can likely find friendly faces with natural solutions at one of the businesses along Girard Avenue. If you live there or nearby, you probably walk by these places every day.
On August 29, why not book an appointment and get pampered super close to home? The fundraising event runs from 10 - 4pm, and funds from services will be donated to the Kensington Community Food Co-op (KCFC). You can feel good about the treatments that you will receive two-fold - your body will thank you for taking care of it and for supporting community food. Details are listed on the flyer.
While you're there, be sure to check out some of the other stops. The holistic businesses along the Girard Avenue Road to Wellness include:

Your intelligence level is good but be careful when you are formulating your opinion about a home. Looks and unsupported advice can be deceiving so when determining an opinion make sure you are not misguided. Go back to basics.
12 points
Your intelligence is fair but there is a lot of room for growth if you could just cut that cord, make some fur-less friends, and avoid crystal balls!
18 points
Intelligence level is low. Possibly due to too much spray-on tan or hair gel "fur shur"! Dude, you may want to consider moving back to Cali. "Like" that would be "tubular"!

You are the cream of the crop, exhibiting an innate intelligence and powerful observation skills. You are officially ready to buy a fantastic home!
