As very active Philadelphia Realtors we at The Somers Team at Remax Access experience a lot of interesting and often hilarious things in our day to day activities. We find ourselves saying, "We Just Can't Make This Stuff Up!" In the spirit of good humor here is another one of those things we'd like to share with you.
This one is from our Facebook friend Mike Torres who works at Remax:
Mr. Seller had 14 mouse traps set up in the basement! Hmmm... Definitely one of the top 10 things not to do when trying to sell your home.
How's this for refreshing? 1119 E Eyre Street is an extremely well maintained 2 bedroom 1.5 bath Riverside Fishtown property on one of the best blocks in the area. In immediate walking distance to amazing restaurants such as Kraftwork, Interstate Draft House, EGG and Johnny Brendas as well as the Rec Center and Library. Property has tremendous curb appeal from the outside. Enter in to large formal living and dining room on the first floor. Original hardwood floors on first floor, wainscoting, and built in shelving in the living room. Property has one of the largest kitchens for its size, great for the culinary folks with tile flooring, plenty of counter space, custom cabinetry and stainless steel appliances. Half bath on first floor is a big plus. Large rear yard perfect for summer bbq and/or pets. Upstairs has 2 spacious bedrooms with ample closet space. Renovated full bath is large with double sink. It is important for us to give back to the community as much as we can, especially those neighborhoods where we live, work and play. And where we own real estate! It is the fabric and structure of the neighborhood associations that really help a community thrive, many of which are on shoe-string budgets.
Since 2011, we have donated 5 percent of our real estate commissions to the Northern Liberties Neighborhood Association for those settlements (either seller or buyer) within Northern Liberties. In 2012, we expanded that program to include properties in South Kensington
It is our way to practice "Do Good Real Estate in Philadelphia" and be Do Good Realtors! If you are buying or selling in Philadelphia and want to be part of the Do Good Philosophy, contact The Somers Team. And if you are interviewing several agents, why not go with the Do Good Realtors that are giving back to your community?
Clients can also specify which not-for-profit they would like a donation to go to... we just ask for that not-for-profit to be local to support the community.
I met Charlie Collazo, his lovely wife, and two of the tapmasters at The Institute yesterday. Not an institute for higher learning... though I am sure I could learn a lot by hanging out with these guys. Charlie is the owner of The Institute, located at 549 N. 12th Street in the West Poplar neighborhood. I had driven past it a hundred times before but never popped in. I knew it was a cool place just by the exterior facade. Check out the video clip above. So, on my way back from picking up some things at the local CVS on Spring Garden Street in Northern Liberties, I said to myself, “Self, let’s skip the rest of your chores and play hooky at The Institute.”
I stepped in from the frigid 20 degree weather outside to be greeted by a warm cozy atmosphere and immediately found my place at the bar. The place has a super friendly vibe and the food that was coming out of the kitchen smelled incredible and looked like the ultimate comfort/stick to your ribs cuisine. Mmmm. One of the bartenders recommended a delicious beer (they have at least 16 on draft BTW) and the edifying conversation ranged from the prolific surge of real estate development in the neighborhood to discussing the local viral news story captured in Kensington (naked guy assaults bus).
West Poplar shares the same zip code but not the same characteristics as Northern Liberties. Whatever you call it makes no difference. It is the home of The Institute and I highly recommend you checking it out.
I want to thank Charlie and his people for making my visit memorable and if anyone ever wants to play hooky with me at the Institute, hit me up!
The not-to-be-missed art event of the year is upon us! Scope out the details below on the InLiquid Benefit v.13, and spread the word! RSVP and purchase tickets here. We'll see you there.
We're spreading the word about local vendors and service providers that we know, use and who consistently surpass our expectations. Apps are cool but can't refinish your deck, treat for termites, or clean your house...but here are a few good people who do!
Are you local and passionate about serving customers? Want more people to enjoy the services you provide? Then get in touch! We'd like to consider adding you to our preferred vendor list. This was our fourth consecutive year at Inman Real Estate Connect NYC which once again exceeded expectations. We have so many notes and our brains are overwhelmed after hearing and discussing some of the latest and greatest technologies and innovation in real estate. This conference sets the stage for our energy and momentum going into 2013 and provides for inspiration to incorporate a few things into your business plan.
And besides, what better way to re-charge than being in New York City surrounded by some of the best restaurants in the world. We highly recommend all three of the restaurants we visited - Lupa (Soho), Gramercy Tavern (Gramercy) and The Standard Grille (Meat Packing District).
Here is a quick snapshot of our experience.
