Putting Our Muscle Where Our Mouth Is

On Saturday, June 11, we are putting our muscle where our mouth is.

After posting a controversial video clip two weeks ago, it became overwhelmingly clear that there are a lot of Northern Liberties neighbors and business owners who really want to see the South side of North 2nd Street in Northern Liberties cleaned up and beautified. We were emailed and stopped on the street by people who saw the video. They graciously offered to clean, paint, use decorative banners, and all kinds of creative ideas to help improve the look of the unused, seemingly abandoned storefronts. Their genuine interest was a clear sign to us, that we should organize a N 2nd Street Sweep. Once we clean up the street perhaps we can inspire some of the current owners of these dilapidated facades to tap into some of our resources. FREE!

So we're going to start with a N 2nd Street Sweep from Fairmount to Poplar Streets on Saturday, June 11, and we would love for you to join us. We will be cleaning from 10am - 12pm. The NLNA has offered to supply bags, brooms, and gloves. Meet us at the corner of N 2nd Street and Brown Street that morning to discuss your ideas or to lend a helping hand.

This cleanup initiative is meant to be a message aimed directly at the unresponsive owners of the properties that are hindering the beauty and progress on this slice of N 2nd St in Northern Liberties. The message we have for them is this:

WE WILL HELP YOU!

Mind blowing, right? At no cost to the property owners, we are offering our help.  But ultimately, to raise this block to its full potential, we need the property owners to know we are willing to help them. Tough times call for generosity and outstretched hands. So, if you want to help the cleanup effort, please contact Stephanie@thesomersteam.com or just show up on June 11! : )

  1. Don – Thanks ! Appreciate your interest. We know it is going to be a busy day in the neighborhood. We are hoping that other people that are not volunteering in other activities will carve out in hour or two in the morning to help the clean-up effort.

  2. Kind folks…. 6/11 is the same date as the NLNA flea market, chili cook-off and music fest at Liberty lands… so I and many others will be tied up working there from early morning until after 11PM … sorry otherwise you would see me there.
