The Soup’s On…Frankford Avenue.

If there was ever a moment for soup, it's right now.

A Soup Kitchen on the border of Fishtown and Kensington? That sounds like a nod to the past. For those of who you remember the Kensington Soup Society, the history of which you can access here, the neighborhoods of Fishtown and Kensington were long-served by a soup kitchen that doled out hot soup to those in need. At its time of closing in 2007, it was Philadelphia’s last neighborhood soup kitchen.

Now, an actual cafe by the name of Soup Kitchen has opened at 2146 E Susquehanna Ave., right off of Frankford. It is serving coffee, sandwiches, and of course, soup. Coffee comes from local roaster Cafe L'Aube.  And these are not your everyday run-of-the-mill concoctions either. Some of the specials that Soup Kitchen has recently posted on their Facebook Page:

Toasted Multigrain with Goat Cheese and Kumquat Marmalade

Seared Skirt Steak w/ Fried Egg & Oyster Mushrooms tossed in Parsley Vinaigrette

Carrot and Orange Soup w/ Tarragon & Nutmeg Mousse

While this isn't the Soup Kitchen that your grandparents talked about, it sure is a welcome addition to the community.
