Franklin Square: Mini-Golf, SquareBurger, and a Giant Carousel

Franklin Square

Ben Franklin was anything but a square fellow. So when the oft-forgotten about square named after him was up for renovation, the city of Philadelphia turned the 6th and Race Street park into an amusement-filled attraction.

Now, the 7.5-acre Franklin Square has an 18-hole miniature golf course made out of historic Philly sites. The Philadelphia Park Liberty Carousel is a spinning fixture of the park. At the center of the Square is the fountain itself, surrounded by a wrought-iron fence. If you walk by the Square at night, the additional lighting that was put in makes for a romantic shortcut. Franklin Square looks better than ever.

One of the main draws to the park is SquareBurger, a Stephen Starr burger shack that supported a Philly burger craze last season. It's a destination for foodies and Philly bloggers, who can't get enough of the Tastykake-themed milkshakes and the Philly Dog wrapped in salami.

If you're looking for a way to entertain out-of-town guests or a place to spend the afternoon with family, Franklin Square is a convenient walk to Chinatown, Old City, or Northern Liberties. If it's simply a burger you crave? Well, there's that, too.
