Leotah’s Place to Bring Lattes to East Kensington

East KensingtonThe neighborhood of East Kensington has a lot going for it. One of the most impressive urban farms in the city, Greensgrow, and a friendly taproom known for their fried pickles and amazing selection of beer, Memphis Taproom. If we had to point out the one thing that's missing? We'd have to say it's a coffeeshop.

In Fishtown, Girard Avenue has the Milkcrate Cafe.  Frankford Avenue has the Rocket Cat and Bella Sera Cafe. Venture over to York Street, however, where 2424 Studios has placed a lot of up-and-coming business offices and studios, with not a drop of java to be found.  This busy block is now begging for a real coffeehouse, where creative minds can meet up and network, where artists, musicians, and writers can brood over a cup of steaming black.

That's about to happen, now that Leotah's Place is coming to 2033 E. York St.,  at Coral Street. The 50-seat shop will have 3 rooms and plans on serving Direct Trade coffee from roaster La Terza, along with sandwiches and salads. Leotah's will host an open mic night called Bring Your Voice, along with other community gatherings.  Currently, Leotah's is in the process of securing zoning, and we'll keep you posted on an opening date.
